MESA, Ariz. (July 2, 2025) – A Gilbert woman returned to the hospital this week to reunite with her medical team and celebrate her miraculous recovery after she nearly lost her life to a heart attack six months ago.
“They’re my guardian angels,” Stephanie Law said at the reunion Tuesday at Banner Heart Hospital. “I’m eternally grateful to the team at the hospital for saving my life and being there for me the whole way — from the sanitation workers to the many different nurses and doctors — everyone was incredible.”
It was just a couple days before Christmas when the 62-year-old Law learned she was suffering from a heart attack. Law had gone to see her cardiologist after experiencing chest pains and was immediately transported to Banner Heart Hospital once an electrocardiogram, or ECG, confirmed her worst fears.
At the hospital, doctors implanted her with an Impella CP device, a temporary pump that supports the heart, and then placed stents to restore blood flow to her heart. Unfortunately, the next day Law was suffering from cardiogenic shock, a life-threatening condition when the heart is unable to pump enough blood for the body. To mitigate this, doctors then implanted another device, an Impella 5.5, and Law’s condition improved over the next few days until it could be removed.
After nearly two months of hospitalization and intensive rehab, Law ultimately recovered and returned home to her family, where she’s back to enjoying cooking and spending time with loved ones.
“It’s such a privilege to be able to see patients like Stephanie and her family after they’ve had a successful recovery from such a frightening health event,” said Dr. Jas Kahlon, a cardiologist at Banner Heart Hospital. “She was facing a grim outcome, but she fought through and we couldn’t be happier that we were able to help get her back on her feet and to normal life again.”
